Struggling With Engagement Rate?

It can be so frustrating when you are really excited about sharing a photo and then like 90% of your audience doesn't see it and it completely flops. Or you have been noticing your overall engagement has been dropping more and more recently while you see other accounts get hundreds of comments and think to yourself, "HOW?!"
It can be discouraging, but understand that it is not you or your photos! It's your strategy! And I'm about to tell you how to improve it. If you're struggling with engagement rate I want you to consider these things.
What kind of value are you bringing to your audience?
This one is huge! The Instagram game has changed.
We all know the algorithm has changed from being in chronological order to showing the most popular posts first. At first when travel bloggers, fashion bloggers, foodies, etc started posting amazing photos it was easy to stand out and be at the top. But now so many people are in this industry it's getting harder and harder to stand out in a sea of content.
It isn't enough to just post an epic photo of a waterfall and hope it does well. It isn't enough to only talk about your travel experiences, where you go and how epic, or not so epic, it was. But one thing people can never get enough of is value! Next time you write a caption, think about what kind of value it is bringing to your audience.
Are you sharing a personal story that could help others get through similar feelings? Are you giving valuable knowledge about a certain topic? Are you advocating for a greener planet or spreading awareness about an issue that is important to you?
The best way to stand out in a sea of content is just by being YOU. No one else has the same personality, experiences, goals, knowledge, or style as you! So capitalize on that shit!
How much time are you spending engaging with others?
Your engagement is KEY. You can’t just post a photo, turn the app off, and hope it does well. If this is what you do, I’m going to guess you are having trouble getting your photos seen.
What I’ve found works best is after posting a photo, I’ll spend the next hour or two engaging with new accounts. And not just any new accounts; I’ll find someone on my feed that has the same sort of niche as me, then I go to their comments, find someone who has about the same amount of followers/niche, comment on some of their photos, then look through their comments, find someone else, and down the rabbit hole of engagement you go.
If you don't have time to do this right after you post thats okay! As long at your are spending time on this sometime throughout the day I promise you will see improvement! The more time you spend on this the more engagement you will see on your own posts. I also see sooo many people who don’t respond to their own comments!
How can you expect people to keep giving you love if you aren’t giving it right back?! Respond to ALL your comments people! Not only does it improve your engagement by having twice as many comments on your post, but people will feel appreciated and will want to continue showing you love.
